Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is one of four national parks sites in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, known for its stunning and colorful sandstone cliffs, numerous trails and plentiful opportunities to go boating and kayaking. The lakeshore hugs the coast of Lake Superior – the largest and deepest of all the Great Lakes – for more than 60 kilometers and boasts hiking, camping, boating and many other opportunities to get outside.

Pictured Rocks is like two parks packed into one – water lovers have a wealth of aquatic and paddling activities to choose from, while the wild land of the park is a treasure trove of hiking trails, waterfalls and other spectacular natural features. Whichever option you choose, there’s more than enough beauty, recreation, historical landmarks and even art installations to make it a must-visit destination, no matter the season.

In the spring, the hiking trails are carpeted with colorful wildflowers indicating the approaching warm, sunny days of summer. Come autumn, the park dazzles with orange, red and yellow foliage. And in the colder months, snow blankets the landscape, transforming the lakeshore into a bright winter wonderland perfect for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling – and ice climbers can discover fantastic curtains and columns of ice to ascend. No matter what time of year you visit, you’re bound to encounter a beautiful scene.
