Northwest Passage Scenic Byway

Another outstanding road trip, the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway, the longest official byway in the state, stretches 325 kilometers through the Bitterroot Mountains. Stop to fish, hike and gaze at sweeping vistas along part of Lewis and Clark’s path through north-central Idaho.

Sacajawea Historic Byway

Along the 212-kilometer Sacajawea Historic Byway lies the Charcoal Kilns Interpretive Site, an 1880s mining landmark. Soak in its history before visiting the Sacajawea Interpretive, Cultural, & Educational Center, named after the extraordinary Lemhi Shoshone woman who aided Lewis and Clark.

St. Joe River Scenic Byway

Cruise along the St. Joe River Scenic Byway, home to captivating wildlife like elk, moose and bald eagles. Stop to explore quaint towns nestled along the St. Joe River and to experience world-class fly fishing and paddling.

Hells Canyon National Recreation Area

Old-West history meets rugged beauty in the USA’s deepest river gorge – Hells Canyon. Hike or ride horseback through its scenic trails, scope out grazing bighorn sheep and take an adrenaline-pumping whitewater rafting excursion on the Snake River.

Route of the Hiawatha

Wind Cave National Monument
